In the years to 2010, the National Roads Authority will concentrate on the completion of the 5 major inter urban roads (MIUs). The first MIU, the M1 motorway (Dublin to the Border), was completed and officially opened in August 2007.

Other major roads projects to be delivered under Transport 21 include the M50 upgrade and the Atlantic Road Corridor from Letterkenny to Waterford via Sligo, Tuam, Ennis, Limerick, Mallow & Cork.
