N15 N17 N18 N20 N25 Atlantic Corridor

Project Title  N15/N17/N18/N20/N25 Atlantic Corridor

(From Letterkenny to Waterford via Sligo, Tuam, Ennis, Limerick, Mallow & Cork)
   Ennis by-pass
Project Description

The upgrading of this route is intended to improve access to and between the major towns and cities it serves, or passes close to, and their respective hinterlands. It also takes account of the growing commuter traffic in the areas around these major towns and cities.

Although not intended for full completion before 2015, significant improvement works have already been carried out along its length. The N15 Ballyshannon / Bundoran Bypass, work on which commenced in July 2004, was officially opened in April 2006.

The N18 Ennis Bypass, work on which commenced in April 2004, was officially opened in January 2007. Major improvement works have also been carried out at Barnesmore Gap, between Knock and Claremorris, from Ballycasey to Dromoland and at Hurler’s Cross.

The 22km M18 Gort to Crusheen scheme was officially opened on 12 November 2010, nine months ahead of schedule. Estimate indicates that journey times between Ennis and Galway may be reduced by up to 20 minutes at peak times.
