Current Status of Project

The rollout of projects is under way at all six airports. On 16 October 2009, Mr. Noel Dempsey, Minister for Transport, officially opened the new terminal at Ireland West Knock Airport. To end 2009, under Transport 21, over €9.4 million has been spent at the airport, mainly on the terminal extension, an Instrument Landing System and a perimeter fence and road.

Grant aid capped at €10.87 million has been allocated in respect of the City of Derry Airport runway safety project, matching commitments by the Northern Ireland authorities under the co-funding arrangement agreed by the two Governments in 2005. Grant payments began in 2008 and amounted to €6.5 million by mid 2009. The project is expected to be completed and the full T21 contribution paid by the end of 2009.
