Luas Line BX- Line D - St Stephen's Green to Liffey Junction
Project Description

This project will link the existing Luas Tallaght and Sandyford Lines and continue on, via Broadstone, to meet the Maynooth suburban rail line at Liffey Junction (Broombridge).

The line to Broombridge will serve the new Dublin Institute of Technology campus at Grangegorman and provide for interchange with the Iarnród Éireann Maynooth/Navan rail service at Broombridge.

Projected Completion Date Completion date will be subject to the relevant statutory process and to the procurement and contract award processes; the start and completion dates of projects which have not yet commenced, including Line BXD, will also be determined by the funding allocation available during the current difficult economic climate.
Current Status of Project

In June 2010, the RPA submitted an application to An Bord Pleanala for a railway order (planning permission) for the proposed Luas cross-city link and extension to Broombridge (Line BXD). A copy of the draft railway order and the documents which accompanied the application, including an EIS, may be viewed/downloaded at www.dublinluasbroombridge.ie. An Bord Pleanala has notified interested parties that it has decided to hold an oral hearing in relation to this project. A preliminary meeting of the oral hearing that was due to be held on Friday 24 September 2010 was postponed and a revised date for that meeting is awaited.

Following a review of the interface between the cross-city Luas link and Metro North, it was decided in April 2008 that it would not be possible to fully construct the cross-city Luas link at the same time as construction of Metro North is underway because of the unacceptable traffic management implications which would arise. The RPA will, therefore, subject to an enforceable Railway Order, proceed with construction works on the Luas cross-city link insofar as such construction can be carried out simultaneously with Metro North without unacceptable traffic impacts. All remaining works on the Luas cross-city link will be completed once Metro North works materially affecting traffic management in the city have been completed.
