Current Status of Project
Phase 1
The objective of Phase 1 of this project was to deliver an additional 40% capacity on the Luas Red Line (to Tallaght) through the extension of all 26 trams on that line from 30 to 40 metres, similar to those used on the Green Line. This project was completed in May 2008.

Phase 2
Phase 2 of this project was the provision of eight new trams for the Red/Green Luas lines. The new trams became fully operational and available for passenger service at end September 2009 marking the completion of this project.

Phase 3
The RPA is also keeping under review the options and timescale for providing further capacity on the Green Line (to Sandyford), such as increasing the frequency of services and increasing the length of trams.
