| Project Title | Kildare Rail Project |
| Project Description | Project involves quadrupling of critical section of track between Cherry Orchard and Hazlehatch on the Heuston-Kildare line, as well as associated ancillary works such as signalling and station developments. The project will allow separation of long distance and commuter services and improve speed and capacity for commuter, regional and intercity services. The areas served by the Heuston/Kildare line are growing rapidly. Existing train services are fully subscribed and capacity for growth is very restricted. New trackwork and signalling is designed to provide increased operational flexibility to run more frequent services for each of the three market segments operating on the line –commuter, regional and intercity. The project will also facilitate higher density developments along the corridor according to local authority land use objectives. Peak hour numbers are projected to increase from 2,000 passengers in 2005 to 5,300 passengers per hour in 2009 and to 9,300 passengers per hour in 2016. Completion of the project will provide the necessary capacity. |
