The following developments took place in October 2010:

LUAS

Luas Cherrywood

The Luas extension to Cherrywood opened for passenger services on 16 October.


METRO

Metro North Railway Order


An Bord Pleanála granted a Railway Order (Planning Permission), subject to conditions, to the RPA, in respect of Metro North on 28 October.


HEAVY RAIL

DART Underground Oral Hearing

An Bord Pleanála announced that the oral hearing for DART Underground is to take place on 22 November.


ROADS

M4 Service Area Enfield

A new service area on the M4 west of junction 9 at Enfield opened on 6 October, one of the first such purpose built facilities in Ireland.

N21 Castleisland Bypass

The N21 Castleisland Bypass opened on 22 October, two months ahead of schedule. The €35m project is expected to remove 60% of traffic from Castleisland’s Main Street, and greatly reduce travel times into and out of Kerry.
