Metro North

An Bord Pleanála issued a letter to interested parties concerning the adjournment (on 29 April 2009) of the Oral Hearing into the RPA’s application for a Railway Order in respect of Metro North. The letter stated that the decision to adjourn the hearing was to allow the Inspector and interested parties the opportunity to review and assimilate further information provided at the hearing by the RPA. This information is available for public inspection by appointment at the offices of Dublin City Council, Fingal County Council and An Bord Pleanála for the duration of the adjournment. The date for the resumption of the Oral Hearing will be notified to interested parties by An Bord Pleanála in due course and it is anticipated that the hearing will then run to a conclusion.

(This additional information provided at the hearing by the RPA has also been made available by the RPA at the Agency’s head office and may also be accessed on the RPA’s website at www.rpa.ie)

The N51 Navan inner relief road will be complemented by an additional 4km of new road that has been provided as part of the M3 motorway project. The new link road forms part of the N51 which connects the north and west of Navan to the Athboy Road Interchange on the M3.

An Taoiseach announced that a decision had been made regarding the route option for Phase 2 of the Navan Rail Line. The route chosen is the original alignment (with minor variations) to the west of Dunshaughlin.

22 May

Accessibility

An Taoiseach officiated at the unveiling of the accessibility works at Tullamore Railway Station. These improvements are designed to give greater access to people with mobility and sensory impairments as well as offering improved facilities to families travelling with small children and people travelling with heavy baggage.

25 May

Glounthaune-Midleton project

The Minister of Transport announced the timetable that will operate when services commence in July (every half hour at peak, every hour at off-peak).

M8 Fermoy to Mitchelstown

This project opened on 25 May, 9 months ahead of schedule. The new motorway runs for 16 kms between Carrigane, north of Mitchelstown, and Moorepark north of Fermoy, in County Cork. It cuts at least 10 minutes off the average journey time from Cork to Dublin and will be used by approximately 16,000 vehicles per day. There is now only one section of the Dublin to Cork major inter-urban route to be completed – the N8 Portlaoise to Cullahill/Castletown scheme. This is due for completion in 2010.
