The following developments took place in January 2008:

LUAS

Tallaght Luas Line – tram extension programme

Two further 30 metre trams on the Tallaght Luas Line were extended to 40 metres during the month and there are now 19 extended trams operating on the line. Just seven of the original 26 trams on the Tallaght line remain to be extended and the RPA plan to complete this task by May 2008.


HEAVY RAIL

Intercity Rail Carriages

The second batch of 183 new Intercity railcars entered into service on the Limerick – Dublin route.

Cork Commuter Railine

The main construction contract for the reopening of the Midleton-Glounthaune line was awarded in December 2007. Construction will commence in February 2008 with a target completion date of Summer 2009.


ROADS

Minister Dempsey announced details of the Government’s €1.68 billion national roads investment programme for 2008 on the 25th of January.
