August 2008

The following developments took place in August:

LUAS

Luas Line A1 – Citywest Extension

The statutory period for application for leave to apply for judicial review of the Railway Order in respect of the planned Luas extension to Citywest expired on 11 August 2008 and that Railway Order is now fully enforceable.

HEAVY RAIL

The planned roll out of the new fleet of 183 intercity railcars continued during August with the entry into service of new intercity railcars on the Waterford – Dublin line.

ROADS

On 30 August tollbooths on the M50 were removed. This move to barrier-free tolling is a key part of the Government’s policy to ease congestion on Ireland’s busiest road. Together with the ongoing M50 upgrade (which will be fully complete by 2010) it is expected that traffic capacity will increase significantly as will average speeds and traffic flow on the route and the other radial routes coming into and out of Dublin.
