LUAS
Luas Docklands Extension
On 7 April the RPA announced the commencement of work on the main civil and track infrastructure contract for the Luas extension to the Docklands. The contract for this work was awarded to M-Pact, a joint venture between Laing O’Rourke and Grant Rail, who will lay the 1.5 km of double track between Connolly Station and The Point and construct four new Luas stops at George’s Dock, Mayor Square, Spencer Dock and the Point Depot.
Extension of trams on Luas Tallaght Line
Another two trams on the Luas Tallaght Line were extended during April.
Twenty four 30-metre, trams have now been extended to 40 metres.
It is expected that the remaining two 30-metre trams will be lengthened
to 40 metres by end May.
HEAVY RAIL
The rollout of the 183 new Intercity railcars continued across the network with 3 train sets introduced into service on the Dublin/Westport line in mid-April.
The re-signalling on the Rosslare line was completed over the weekend of 26 April. This marks the completion of the current national Re-Signalling Programme.
BUSES
On 21 April Bus Eireann launched two new bus routes in Cork city. The number 10A complements the existing service to Mahon Point operating via Boreenmanna Road and serving the areas of Skehard, Mahon Point Shopping Centre and Jacobs Island and the number 16 serving Rochestown and operating via the areas of Clarkes Hill, Garryduff, Maryborough Hill and Douglas. Funding provided under T21 to acquire additional buses has made the introduction of the new routes possible. The Cork city fleet is now 100% wheelchair-accessible.
