October 2007

The following developments took place in October:

LUAS

The RPA reached the half-way point in the project to extend all 26 trams on the Red (Tallaght) line by 10 metres thus expanding the capacity of each tram by 40%. Thirteen of the newly extended trams are now in service and all trams will be extended by mid 2008.

HEAVY RAIL

Track laying work commenced on Phase 1 of the Western Rail Corridor from Ennis to Athenry.

ROADS

N8 Cashel Mitchelstown

A 12 km section of the N8 Cashel to Mitchelstown project and 3 km of the N24, which effectively provide a bypass to the north of Cahir town, were opened to traffic on 15th October 2007.
