Minister Cullen receives Railway Order Application from RPA for Luas Extension to Cherrywood

The Minister for Transport, Martin Cullen, T.D., today (7 November) received a Railway Order application from Mr Padraic White, Chairman of the RPA for an extension of the Luas network from Sandyford to Cherrywood. This follows on the launching of "Transport 21" by the Minister for Transport on 1st November and means that the first of seven new Luas projects has now started the necessary statutory process required.

The process involves wide public consultation and an independent public inquiry and ultimately a determination by the Minister for Transport.

Minister Cullen said: "Without in any way prejudging the outcome, I very much welcome the fact that the RPA has been so pro-active in advancing the Luas extension to Cherrywood. It augurs well for the speedy and effective implementation of Transport 21.
