Cullen publishes Report of Public Inquiry on proposed Glounthaune to Midleton Rail project

Date: 01 February 2007

Transport Minister, Martin Cullen, T.D., announced today (Thursday 1st February 2007) that he has published the Report of the Public Inquiry held under the Transport (Railway Infrastructure) Act, 2001 on the proposed Glounthaune to Midleton Rail Project.

This follows an application made for a Railway Order for the re-opening of the railway line between Glounthaune and Midleton, with stations at Carrigtwohill and Midleton by Iarnród Éireann to Minister Cullen in May 2006.

The Glounthaune to Midleton Rail project involves the re-opening of the disused railway line between Glounthaune and Midleton, from the existing Cobh line at Harper’s Island to the town of Carrigtwohill and on to the old station terminal north of Midleton town.

Minister Cullen is now considering the relevant documentation, including this Report that was prepared and submitted to him by an independent Inspector, Mr. Pat Butler, S.C.

The report is available for purchase from the Government Publications Sales Office (price €4) and can be accessed on the Department’s website at www.transport.ie
